Sabita is dedicated to the development and implementation of best practice techniques in health and safety as well as in environmental conservation in the bituminous products industry in southern Africa.
The key objective is the promotion of self-regulation in HSE in the bituminous products industry through the introduction of an HSE Charter and the implementation of a certification scheme. The Charter encourages compliance to the requirements of the HSE laws of South Africa and international best practice. Non-compliance could lead to the cessation of Sabita membership. Sabita has developed an incident reporting scheme to help identify high risk practices in the handling of bituminous products. The information gleaned from the BitInRep will be used to improve codes of practice to prevent their re-occurrence.
To encourage self-regulation, criteria have been identified which will be used to measure compliance with the Charter. Members’ sites will be audited in terms of these criteria and certified accordingly on their successful compliance.
More information on the subject is available on the “Members Only” section of the Sabita web site.
